Walking around Decatur, I spotted this deer painted on a restaurant wall. There is nothing special about the image, but it did remind me of the first trip my wife and I made to France.
We spent three days in Blois (pronounced bool-wah), a small town south of Paris that sits on the Loire River. Having just graduated, we were on a budget, so we decided to stay at a tiny hotel called Au Grand Cerf (Cerf means “deer” in French). There were only about five or six rooms, and all shared one bath. The rooms were spare, with only a bed and a desk for furniture. On the first floor of this hotel was a restaurant, which a guidebook said had good food. We had every meal in the restaurant.
The guidebook was spot-on—the food was superb, much better than one might expect, given the unassuming outward appearance of the hotel. Cote de Veau à la creme and Pate de Campagne are still two of our favorite foods.
I love how the colors of the deer pop. It almost reminds me of how colors look when layered with a marker
I am constantly being surprised at the amount of art on buildings here.
