
Usually, I prefer to photograph images with significant shadows in black and white. Shadows seem to add a sense of gravitas or at least a specific mood to an image. Here, I chose to shoot in color because of the vibrancy of the plumage, the warmth of the sunlight, and the way the shadows framed the bird’s face—particularly the eyes. It looks as if it longs to escape.
I love the framing of this image. The shadows really make the bird pop out almost like 3D. Beautiful shot!
