This summer has been hotter and drier than those of the last three years. Those three years made me lazy. Even though I put in new irrigation tubing, I used it only a few times in early May. A few times in July, it poured, so I assumed all would be well, which left me hoping.
In nearly every year I’ve gardened, except 2017, rain has returned by the middle of September. After waiting expectantly and checking the weather radar day by day, I began to fear that, like 2017, the rain was delayed. Then one afternoon, I noticed the sky darken, and a few drops appeared. Over the next 12 hours or so, the heavens opened up, filling the bird bath and answering my prayers! In all, we got nearly four inches of rain. I’m good for at least 10 days!
