We’ve bought columbines for two years straight and did not get them planted before the heat came. The beauty of these flowers enthralls me, though it seems I will never grow them. They seem to be very delicate to the point of being impossibly finicky. While keeping them in pots, I’ve tried a little water and more water, direct sun and part sun. They die in the pots, often within a week of being bought. At first, I thought it was the storage location, but other plants in the exact location survived not only weeks, but one group made it until the following year before being planted.
This year, while finishing up a roll of Fuji 100, I took this shot using my 100mm f2.8 macro and + 2 close-up filter. Only one frame was left, and as can happen, the AF missed focus on the flower’s center—getting the back petals instead. I could be disappointed, but at least there’s a remembrance of this once lovely columbine…
